This church was organized in 1854 on the banks of Salado Creek. For several years the church was served by circuit riders. One of these ministers was the Rev. J.E. Ferguson, father of Texas Governor James E. Ferguson. This present building was erected in 1890 with lumber hauled 50 miles by wagon from Austin.
